YDI's Career Internship Network: A Practice Community for High School Internship Providers

The Career Internship Network (CIN) is a community of practice and learning network for practitioners at New York City cultural institutions that operate high school internship programs. CIN has been in regular operation since 2003, and is hosted by the Youth Development Institute.

The goal of CIN is to promote high-quality internship experiences, grounded in youth development principles, for high school students in New York City. CIN members include internship practitioners from a variety of cultural institutions including museums, historical societies, gardens, parks and conservancies, libraries, theaters, and a range of educational organizations.

CIN provides professional development, peer learning experiences, structured site visits, technical assistance and resources to its members. CIN is a peer-driven network: all workshops are designed in consultation with members, who share their tools, resources and best practices to enhance quality across the field.

Membership is free to organizations that provide internships and meet the following criteria:

  • The organization offers a high school internship program
  • The internship program offers a work-based and project-focused curriculum
  • The organization has staff dedicated to operating a high-quality internship program
